Meet Ashwin Kapoor, Head of Political Violence and Terrorism

Forming part of the newly created Crisis Management team (including Accident & Health and Contingency), Ashwin Kapoor joined our Global Corporate & Specialty (GCS) division to help shape and lead our new Political Violence and Terrorism (PVT) proposition, which launched in November 2024.

To get to know Ashwin and better understand his vision for the new proposition, we asked him a few questions about his role and why he decided to join Aviva.

Why Aviva?

“I joined Aviva because it presented an exciting opportunity to help shape and build a new Political Violence proposition, particularly considering an increasingly volatile geopolitical climate; with many of the conditions that precede major conflicts higher than they have been since the end of the Second World War1. This role is part of our newly established Crisis Management division, which is strategically positioned for significant growth. Our GCS division has ambitious plans for expansion in both the wholesale and retail sectors, which aligns with the team’s expertise and gives us the ability to make a long-term impact.”

Why has GCS added PVT to its product suite?

“We identified a gap in our overall client proposition by not having a dedicated political violence solution within our GCS portfolio. By launching the new product, we can help to address the evolving risks clients face in an increasingly unpredictable geopolitical environment. While valuable as a standalone product, it also strengthens and enhances our broader property offering, providing clients with a more complete and integrated risk management solution.”

What sets our PVT solution apart?

“What makes our offering so strong is that we’re able to combine our global multinational capabilities, which we’ve been investing significantly in over recent years, with our almost exclusive London market capacity. By leveraging both our Lloyd’s and company capacity, we can help meet a broad range of client needs—from providing local PVT paper in the retail space, where demand is growing, to offering tailored solutions for broker partners in the wholesale space. This dual approach enables us to deliver flexible solutions, backed by a team with extensive experience across both retail and wholesale markets.”

What excites you about this year?

“We’re a new team with big ambitions, and I’m excited to reconnect with my network while building new relationships to showcase our growing Political Violence capability. On a personal note, I’m also looking forward to pushing myself with some ambitious fitness goals, including half marathons and triathlons—though I’m sure there will be moments of regret along the way.”

Crisis Management available via Lloyd’s

In February, we expanded our offering into Lloyd’s of London by introducing PVT and A&H to the market. Following the inclusion of Contingency in late 2024, this means our entire Crisis Management offering is available for brokers to find solutions for their clients across both company market and Lloyd’s, as our GCS division continues our ambition to be a leading dual-platform London Market insurer.
